I attended a program called “It’s All About Business” in June 2005, the summer before my senior year of undergrad. At the final banquet, we all made a video tape saying where we’d be in five years. One of the program’s speakers, Nigel Alston, told us about this study where a group of people did the same thing and the majority of them ended up where they said they’d be. On the video, I said two things:
- I would have just accepted my first Grammy Award, and
- I would be married to the former Thallen J. Womack.
This summer, the IAAB 2005 graduates will reunite and watch that video. I can proudly say that I’ve accomplished my goals. Well, kinda. I did in fact marry the beautiful Thallen J. Womack (now Thallen J. Brassel, Esq.). While I haven’t accepted my first Grammy award (and won’t do so before the reunion since the next ceremony airs in 2011), I have WORKED on a Grammy-award winning project. I just didn’t get credits in the liner notes (gotta pay dues, right?).
Knowing that I’ve come so close to meeting both of my goals, I’ve decided to set a couple of new ones. In five years:
- I’ll be a leader in the music industry. In fact, I’ll be well on my way to mogul-dom.
- I’ll be helping musicians achieve their dreams.
- I WILL have a Grammy-award.
- I will be in the midst of building a global brand. BeingAKB/AKB Media Group will be synonymous with quality, innovation, and good entertainment/music.
I’m actually saying all this because I need you to hold me accountable. Here’s how I plan to achieve my goals:
- Make great music.
- Stick to my morals (I’m a Christian…that ain’t changing).
- Treat all my family, friends, clients, and colleagues with the respect they deserve.
