Good Weekend for Music in NYC: Leah Smith & Jaspects Shows

by AKB on September 10, 2009

I’m looking forward to the weekend. TWO great, up-and-coming artists will be in town performing and I’m checking both of their shows out.

Friday night, Leah Smith will be in Glendale (Queens).  People who frequent the Village Underground’s open mics have seen her a couple of times will tell you she’s quite a talent. Check her out in the video below and come out on Friday to see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

Date: Friday, September 11, 2009 @ 9:30

Location: AfterHours @ Christ Tabernacle, 64-34 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale (Queens), NY 11385

Saturday night, Jaspects will be in town. They’re part of the blipster movement down in Atlanta and can be heard on recordings from Outkast and Janelle Monae (among others).  I found out about them in college and have been listening to their stuff since they dropped “Broadcasting The Definition”, a straight-ahead jazz album.  Their sound has evolved tremendously since that LP into a movement they call “The Polkadotted Stripe”…definitely worth the listen and the $12 to see the show.
